On May 19 (Harare local time), Huayou Cobalt, the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) of Zimbabwe, and Ningbo University of Technology gathered at the Harare Institute of Technology to formally sign a cooperation agreement, jointly witnessing the signing and unveiling ceremony of the China-Zimbabwe College of Engineering and Technology. This marks a key milestone for Huayou Cobalt and its partners in deepening collaboration and fostering development, as well as a landmark event for China and Zimbabwe in joining hands in vocational education. It injects new momentum into China–Africa integration of industry and education.

Zhou Ding, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, attended the ceremony. Also present were Simelizwe Sibanda, Deputy Minister of Education of Zimbabwe; Dr. Tafadzwa Mudondo, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education; Sun Lihui, Vice President of Huayou Cobalt; Wu Xiangpeng, President of Ningbo University of Technology; and representatives from the Harare Institute of Technology, who extended best wishes for the establishment of the China-Zimbabwe College of Engineering and Technology.
Deputy Minister Simelizwe Sibanda noted that the cooperation renews and expands the scope of the original agreement, focusing on training local talents in short supply in key sectors such as manufacturing, construction engineering, new energy, information services and agriculture. The Ministry of Education of Zimbabwe will fully support the project’s implementation to drive local industrial upgrading and social development.
Dr. Tafadzwa Mudondo stated that the cooperation aligns closely with Zimbabwe’s national development strategy, effectively elevating exchanges in China–Zimbabwe vocational and technical education. It represents an important practice of bilateral friendly cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.Sun Lihui, Vice President of Huayou Cobalt, said that the three parties—enterprise, university and college—boast complementary resources and aligned development philosophies. The cooperation will precisely empower the cultivation of local industrial talents in Zimbabwe, injecting human capital momentum into the high-quality development of local industries.Wu Xiangpeng, President of Ningbo University of Technology, emphasized that vocational education serves as a vital link for China–Africa friendly exchanges and the building of a China–Africa community with a shared future. The establishment of the China-Zimbabwe College of Engineering and Technology stands as a significant achievement of government–enterprise–university collaboration. Moving forward, it will set a benchmark for China–Africa vocational education cooperation, deepening practical China–Africa cooperation through the power of vocational education.

Witnessed by all guests on site, representatives of the three parties solemnly signed the cooperation agreement, formally establishing an in-depth enterprise–university–government partnership and opening a new chapter of mutually beneficial cooperation in China–Zimbabwe integration of industry and education.

This tripartite cooperation not only represents a core initiative for Ningbo University of Technology and the Harare Institute of Technology to deepen joint training of applied talents between China and Zimbabwe under the Future Africa Plan, but also a vivid embodiment of the three parties’ commitment to China–Africa friendship and local development empowerment. Having operated in Africa for years, Huayou Cobalt has consistently integrated social responsibility with local development. This collaboration with universities, rooted in the local community, marks a crucial step for the company to advance international industry–education integration and consolidate talent support for overseas operations. It also reflects its commitment to Africa, dedication to society,and promotion of mutually beneficial China–Zimbabwe cooperation.
In the future, Huayou Cobalt will leverage its industrial resources to engage deeply in the full talent development process, build high-quality internship platforms, and offer ample employment opportunities. The aim is to cultivate versatile local talents equipped with Chinese language proficiency + professional skills, ensuring talent growth aligns with industrial development. Taking the signing and unveiling as a new starting point, the three parties will work closely, complement strengths, and steadily advance all cooperation initiatives. Together, they will build a benchmark for China–Africa enterprise–university cooperation, continuously contribute vocational education strength and corporate responsibility to the building of a China–Africa community with a shared future, and write a new chapter of China–Zimbabwe friendship and industry–education integration.
