On May 21 (Zimbabwe time), Dr. Jorem Gambo, Special Advisor to the President of Zimbabwe and Head of the Government Project Supervision and Implementation Task Force, paid an official visit to Huayou Cobalt’s Zimbabwe Base for a dedicated inspection.

During his on-site tour, Dr. Gambo spoke highly of Huayou Cobalt’s strategic acquisition of assets at the Arcadia Mine in Zimbabwe. This investment holds substantial industrial value and long-term significance, fully reflecting the company’s strong confidence in Zimbabwe’s overall strength, governance and growth prospects, while significantly boosting regional market sentiment. As the first Chinese-funded enterprise to construct a lithium salt plant in Zimbabwe, Huayou Cobalt has maintained a local focus and steadily scaled up industrial investment. It has delivered outstanding results in local employment creation, talent development, technological innovation and industrial linkage, providing robust momentum for the transformation and upgrading of Zimbabwe’s mining sector.

Dr. Gambo emphasized that effective government–enterprise collaboration is critical to enhancing mining productivity and improving livelihoods. He encouraged the company to stay rooted locally, fulfill social responsibilities, deepen government–enterprise cooperation, leverage resource and industrial strengths to upgrade projects, and translate industrial advantages into tangible benefits and growth, supporting local economic development. The Government of Zimbabwe will continue to improve the business environment, foster industrial synergy, resolve operational challenges, ensure stable business operations, and jointly advance national development plans.

During the visit, Dr. Gambo toured production facilities and held in-depth discussions with Huayou Cobalt’s management, technical teams and project leads. He reviewed key areas including local policy compliance, environmental stewardship, community engagement and project delivery. Both sides aligned closely on integrating the company’s growth with Zimbabwe’s National Development Vision 2030, exploring industrial value-add pathways to help Zimbabwe achieve its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy.
