Zimbabwe's Vice-President Chiwenga Visits Huayou

On the morning of September 16, Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Vice‑President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, led a delegation on a special visit to Huayou Holdings Group during his high‑level investment and trade tour of China. Chen Xuehua, Chairman of Huayou Holdings Group, extended a warm welcome to the delegation.

Chairman Chen Xuehua warmly welcomed Vice‑President Chiwenga and his entourage, and expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of Zimbabwe for its long‑standing trust and support for Huayou.

At Huayou Global Exhibition Hall, Chairman Chen gave a comprehensive overview of Huayou’s development journey, industrial layout and scientific‑technological innovation. He elaborated on Huayou’s investment and construction activities in Zimbabwe, its efforts to advance China‑Zimbabwe industrial integration, and tangible outcomes in boosting local economic and social development.

Chairman Chen noted that since entering Zimbabwe in 2022, Huayou has upheld the philosophy of “Co‑operation for Joint Construction, Win‑Win for the Future”. With strong support from Zimbabwean authorities, Huayou has built a complete industrial chain covering lithium‑ore mining through to lithium‑salt production using industry‑leading standards. It has established one of Africa’s largest single hard‑rock lithium‑processing bases and Africa’s first factory for local mass production of lithium sulfate. As a landmark China‑Zimbabwe industrial‑cooperation project, the Huayou Arcadia Project vividly embodies Huayou’s strategy of “Global Resources, Global Manufacturing, Global Markets” in Zimbabwe.

Chairman Chen stated that Vice‑President Chiwenga’s visit fully recognises Huayou’s development in Zimbabwe and will surely elevate bilateral co‑operation to deeper and higher levels. Seizing this opportunity, Huayou will closely advance high‑quality Belt and Road co‑operation, adhering to the principle that “wherever we invest, we must contribute to local economic and social progress”. The Group will unswervingly deepen ties, actively fulfil social responsibilities and deliver more landmark co‑operation achievements.

Vice‑President Chiwenga spoke highly of Huayou’s achievements over its 32‑year history. He pointed out that Zimbabwe‑China economic and trade co‑operation forms a cornerstone of bilateral relations. The five‑year period of Huayou’s investment in Zimbabwe has witnessed tangible contributions to Zimbabwe’s economic transformation and social advancement. As an important participant in high‑quality Belt and Road co‑operation and Zimbabwe‑China economic ties, Huayou boasts robust strengths in resource development, green smelting and advanced manufacturing, making substantial contributions to Zimbabwe’s industrialisation and modernisation. The practical partnership between Huayou and Zimbabwe stands as a model of mutual industrial promotion, shared benefits and joint development between the two countries.

Vice‑President Chiwenga also commended Huayou’s corporate‑social‑responsibility initiatives in Zimbabwe. He observed that Huayou’s Goromonzi Integrated Community‑Development Project has earned wide public acclaim across Zimbabwe for its innovative model and remarkable social impact, emerging as a new symbol of China‑Zimbabwe friendship.

Zimbabwe is accelerating its industrial‑transformation drive and needs Chinese enterprises such as Huayou to support its growth, the Vice‑President said. He expressed hope that Huayou would better align its work with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, leverage its strengths, pursue innovative business models and scale up investment in Zimbabwe. He urged expanded co‑operation in mineral development, trade and investment, and technology research to support Zimbabwe’s industrial upgrading and self‑sustaining development, so as to further strengthen the all‑weather community of shared future between Zimbabwe and China. The Government of Zimbabwe will continuously improve the business environment and give full support to Huayou’s investment operations in the country.
